Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Hardcover, bound in faded purple cloth with gold lettering and nice decorative scene stamped on the front cover. Fading to original cloth is rectangularly uneven, as if this book were shelved or stacked beside a smaller one. There is a 2.5 inch split at the top of the front hinge - just the cloth, not any of the structure beneath. Decorative endpapers. Title page dated 1904. 95 pages + 19 pages of wonderful ads. Folding map at the front present and in good condition, as is the one opposite page 42. Illustrated with photographs throughout. The book was published by a company running leisure trips up the Amazon River, and it makes it seem like a civilized picnic outing. Their fleet contains two dozen ships ranging from 4,500 to 12,000 'volumes' -- featuring Screw, Twin Screw, Paddle and Stern Wheel boats. Pages faded but overall quite good condition. Ownership name in pencil on the half title page says R. Hoffmann, 139 Cannon St.' Scarce. This volume comes from the collection of Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, who was a passionate book collector as well as a renowned biologist. His collection recently came to auction near Washington DC, as we were fortunate to purchase a portion of it, which we're proud to offer here. Please email with questions or to request photos. If you see a photo beside this listing, please be aware that it s an ABE Stock Photo (whatever that is) and not a photo of this book. This copy does not have Lovejoy's name in it, but we provide a card with provenance for purchaser. …
