The pupil should first get the idea which the word represents, then associate the idea with the word, and lastly, write the word. This requires the most careful and critical examination of the spelling lesson on the part-oi the teacher, without which, it is not possible to attain the highest success in teaching children to spell.
I have not attempted to indicate the number of words that shall be taken up at a lesson. No one can know this so well as the teacher.
