Dontre K. Johnson's, "By Grace Through Faith" is a poignant collection of poetry that describes
the profound journey of a young black man. Johnson initially self-published this heartfelt book, unraveling his personal narrative of feeling bound by the limited options that life seemed to offer him – a somber choice between incarceration and an early grave. As fate would have it, a misstep led him to spending a couple of years in prison, where he experienced a transformative encounter with God's grace and mercy. Within those confines, he underwent a spiritual awakening, recognizing the divine love and guidance that had been with him all along. Through his faith, Johnson came to realize that a different path awaited him, one abundant with promise and optimism.
Following his release, Dontre wholeheartedly embraced a life led by the teachings of Christ, renouncing any ties to the streets or influences that did not align with his newfound faith. In "By Grace Through Faith" readers are immersed in verses that capture themes of tragedy, sorrow, oppression, and ultimately, triumph.
