God’s Plan is a ‘handbook’ on Spiritual Direction and Faith Formation for Catholics. The intended audience is Lay Catholics who are recognising a desire to grow in their faith journey under good spiritual direction that is in order with the Tradition, Magisterium, and Saints. Many Catholics in the world today are sensing this call from the Holy Spirit to seek out and receive spiritual direction that is reliable and life transforming. What has been lacking is a resource that addresses this specific call and the subsequent journey. God’s Plan is a response to this renewal work of the Holy Spirit among Lay Catholics today.

‘Treatise’ is an older word for what we might now call a ‘handbook’ or ‘user manual’. The book is presented somewhat like a “User Manual for the Lay Catholic.” It thoroughly and successfully explores the “old things” of the Faith Tradition with a new rigour and profound insights that draw on 2000 years of the lived faith journey. Its unique approach successfully addresses the Questions, Foundations, and Sources of Spiritual Direction that are pertinent to the Lay Catholic. Your use of this book will not be "read it and leave it"; you will proceed through its topics as suited to your personal faith journey, working on those things that are needed by you wherever you are in your faith journey.

(From the back cover) “In God’s Plan, you were made for this.” God has a plan for your faith journey, and He wants you to know it. Spiritual direction is how you will learn and live His Plan. We live amidst a culture of confusion that presses itself against our minds and hearts. Knowledge of reliable sources of spiritual direction has waned. In face of the distractions, deceptions, and lures of the world, many Catholics flounder in a sea of ‘not knowing’ and ‘not understanding’ the journey. In God’s Plan, James Couture explores the facets of spiritual direction in the Tradition of the Church from earliest times up to the present. A retired high school teacher of Catholic Studies, and having spent the past seven years on a spiritual journey of suffering and Hope, Couture takes on the challenge of bringing to light the Truths of the Tradition as a reliable map through the essential Questions, Foundations, and Sources of spiritual direction. As a lay Catholic, this map that will guide you on the journey of God’s Plan for you.
