FIRST EDITION, 2/100 COPIES signed by Britten and Plomer (in blue and purple ink respectively), printed on handmade paper, the prelims in facsimile of manuscript calligraphy, pp. [vii], 229, folio, original deluxe binding of full vellum, the composer's signature in blocked in gilt to upper board, backstrip lettered in gilt, corners a little pushed, t.e.g., others untrimmed, original card slipcase a bit knocked with some tape-repair to splits, very good. A suitably lavish edition of Britten's Op. 53, composed for the Coronation of Elizabeth II, but in its theme harking back to the earlier Elizabethan age - its libretto by William Plomer, based on Lytton Strachey's 'Elizabeth and Essex', fashions a connection to the Bloomsbury Group.
