This book provides keynotes and explain important concepts in Genomic Medicine. The book includes 46 full-colour figures and 424 references to allow the reader to explore specific topics further. Sir Richard Thompson, President of the Royal College of Physicians describes it as a fascinating, interesting and novel book. Every science student knows of the statement, 'DNA makes RNA makes protein'. Francis Crick referred to it as James Watson's slogan for his (Crick's) theory of information flow from DNA to protein. Calling his proposal a Central Dogma (Figure) got Crick into trouble with Jacques Monod, also a Nobel Prize winner, for not appearing 'to understand the correct use of the word dogma which is a belief that cannot be doubted'. Crick explained that to him a dogma was 'a grand hypothesis that, however plausible, had little direct experimental evidence'. As Humpty Dumpty says in Lewis Carroll's 1872 'Through the looking glass', 'When I use a word it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less'. From Crick's Dogma has emerged an enormous collection of new words, often used and interpreted with distinct meanings (neither more nor less) by subsets of those participating in the broad 'Genomic Medicine' enterprise. We hope that this book will provide the uninitiated with some useful guide to this terminology maze.
