Gel'fand and Silov present a systematic development of the theory of generalized functions and of problems in analysis connected with it. This first of six volumes, on properties and operations, covers the definition and simplest of properties of generalized functions, Fourier transforms of generalized functions, and particular types of generalized functions. Among specific topics are the differentiation and integration of generalized functions, elementary solutions of differential equations with constant coefficients, Fourier transforms of generalized functions with several variables, and generalized functions concentrated on smooth manifolds of lower dimensions.
