John Phillips' condensed history of canals in England, looking at their usage for travel and and trade purposes. Writing at the time of the industrial revolution in England, Phillips" enthusiasm and passion for the subject is clear on the page. Phillips" was a great surveyor of canals, and his works were widely read and published by his peers.
