CHAPTER 1
CHRONIC LYME IS REAL
AFTER YEARS OF struggling with pain, despair and the frustration of trying to find the way back to full health, the dark cloud of depression drives many in our community to consider suicide.
Throughout the years of the Lyme healing journey, it served me well to strive for self-empowerment. Now when I work with people recovering from Lyme, I encourage them to be willing to take charge, step up in leadership and to add to the light of the world. Having Lyme, one is tested with a continual stream of insults and assaults upon the heart, soul, mind and body.
Eventually chronic Lyme forces one to examine and stop all draining behaviors like people pleasing, which do not serve ones immediate recovery.
These behaviors wear one down and deplete precious energy necessary for recovery. Eventually we learn it makes more sense to heal ourselves first, before ever giving our finite and precious life-source energy over to another.
Sensitive, multi-tasking, highly functioning, high-performing people are struck down by Lyme disease and co-infections, often leaving them without an end-game strategy.
Lost in the world of medicine, Lyme sufferers look for a way out of the pain. It is a mousetrap of nonsensical paths leading to frustration at every turn.
It is an enemy invisible to the naked eye. Casual onlookers cannot comprehend the abject terror-filled pain which continually wracks our body, mind, and spirit. Self-doubt creeps in as we, too, wonder if it is really all in our head. As the years drag on and the illness drives in deeper, desperation grows.
Soft-tissue inflammation causes further damage as the bacteria build their colonies by incorporating heavy metal deposits within our body resulting in bio-film complexes. For some, when this strikes as with a gut-wrenching assault on the digestive track, we are alone in this crippling grip.
Others endure thunder-and-lightning, mind-exploding headaches which can be followed directly by an abrupt disconnect and shutoff of access to our memory and/or ability to articulate.
Speech becomes impaired, with words floating just out of reach, yet within sight, as we struggle to express coherent thoughts.
The brain-to-mouth cue has blown a circuit. We are left standing frozen like a deer in the headlights.
Driving down familiar roads can become a terrifying experience of amnesia.
One looses control of ones own body over time. It becomes a carcass existing in servitude to the whims and demands of the demon plague called Lyme disease and co-infections.
I currently assist people in finding their gift in their struggle through recovery. Why would someone want to find a gift? What will it lead to? How do we know it is a gift? Who should take this journey?
I cured myself of Lyme. There is a gift in the end.
Make no mistake it left a lot of damage in its wake.
It took five years of intensive effort and research to reverse the negative prognosis the doctors claimed was to be my future.
I started keeping a journal to communicate with this illness early on. I started seeing this sickness as a need to reclaim a more positive approach to healing. Instead of seeing this sickness as an enemy that must be annihilated, I designated the illness as my opponent in a game of strategy similar to chess.
Energy cannot be destroyed; it can only be miraculously transformed. That miracle emerges from our own thoughts. It is our own personal decision when to release ourselves from being entrapped by lonely fear and anger built on past wounds.
We should rather embrace a view of the world that is grounded in hope, love, and faith. There is certainly nothing to lose, no risk in trying.
God does his part when we do ours.
Even though I could not concentrate nor focus enough to read during my bedridden years, just knowing there were others who recovered gave me much needed hope to continue searching for relief.
It is my hope that this book will be one of those signposts for you and others to continue on with your own search for wellness.
May God bless you.
WHAT IS LYME DISEASE AND CO-INFECTIONS?
LYME DISEASE IS caused by a bite from a black legged deer tick that has been infected with the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. Both humans and animals can be infected with this disease, but not all ticks carry this disease and not everyone who gets a tick bite contracts Lyme disease.
Symptoms may vary from headaches, arthritis, joint pain, extreme fatigue, muscle aches and pains, flu-like symptoms, vomiting, all the way to meningitis neck pain and fever. Some people who have been bitten by a Lyme tick develop a bullseye rash, others do not, or they develop them years later. If you experience a tick bite or bullseye rash please go immediately to have your doctor confirm through testing if you have contracted Lyme disease or any co-infections. The sooner you start treating Lyme and co-infections the better and speedier your recovery will be.
Here is the bad thing though, of the approximately 33 different types of Lyme bacteria, testing for only two or three different types of bacteria is presently available. It is also known ticks can carry co-infections such as Bartonella, borreliosis, anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and B. miyamotoi infection.
And the other bad news — these test results are often not accurate.
There is talk that Lyme disease may be...
