Buchbeschreibung London Signet Jun 2001, 2001. Taschenbuch. Buchzustand: Neu. 231x81x45 mm. Neuware - The revolutionary literary vision that sowed the seeds of Objectivism, Ayn Rand's groundbreaking philosophy, and brought her immediate worldwide acclaim. This modern classic is the story of intransigent young architect Howard Roark, whose integrity was as unyielding as granite.of Dominique Francon, the exquisitely beautiful woman who loved Roark passionately, but married his worst enemy.and of the fanatic denunciation unleashed by an enraged society against a great creator. As fresh today as it was then, Rand's provocative novel presents one of the most challenging ideas in all of fiction-that man's ego is the fountainhead of human progress. 'A writer of great power. She has a subtle and ingenious mind and the capacity of writing brilliantly, beautifully, bitterly. This is the only novel of ideas written by an American woman that I can recall.'- The New York Times 704 pp. Englisch. Artikel-Nr. 9780451191151

Buchbeschreibung Penguin UK. Taschenbuch. Buchzustand: Neu. 198x129x32 mm. Neuware - Her first major literary success, Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead is an exalted view of her Objectivist philosophy, portraying a visionary artist struggling against the dull, conformist dogma of his peers; a book of ambition, power, gold and love, published in Penguin Modern Classics. Architect Howard Roark is as unyielding as the granite he blasts to build with. Defying the conventions of the world around him, he embraces a battle over two decades against a double-dealing crew of rivals who will stop at nothing to bring him down. These include, perhaps most troublesome of all, the ambitious Dominique Francon, who may just prove to be Roarke's equal. This epic story of money, power and a man's struggle to succeed on his own terms is a paean to individualism and humanity's creative potential. First published in 1943, The Fountainhead introduced millions to Rand's philosophy of Objectivism: an uncompromising defence of self-interest as the engine of progress, and a jubilant celebration of man's creative potential. Ayn Rand (1905-1982), born Alisa Rosenbaum in St. Petersburg, Russia, emigrated to America with her family in January 1926, never to return to her native land. Her novel The Fountainhead was published in 1943 and eventually became a bestseller. Still occasionally working as a screenwriter, Rand moved to New York City in 1951 and published Atlas Shrugged in 1957. Her novels espoused what came to be called Objectivism, a philosophy that champions capitalism and the pre-eminence of the individual. If you enjoued The Fountainhead , you might like Rand's Atlas Shrugged , also available in Penguin Modern Classics. 'In The Fountainhead power, greed, life's grandeur flow hot and red in thrilling descriptions' London Review of Books 'Ayn Rand is a writer of great power. she writes brilliantly, beautifully, bitterly' The New York Times 752 pp. Englisch. Artikel-Nr. 9780141188621

Buchbeschreibung Hardcover. New York Bobbs Merrill 1943. Cloth, 8vo, 754 pages. Later printing of the first edition, with no printings stated but with all the other first edition points. In the second state dustjacket. Red cloth lettered in gilt on the front panel and spine . The dustjacket features a $3.00 price at the base of the front flat and a photo of the author along with three reviews of the book at the rear. All points are present: Page 9: The "9" looks like an "o" at the bottom. Page 321, Line 5: "referred" is spelled "refrred". Page 381, Line 4: The "G" in "G. W. " is slightly smaller. Page 480, Line 2: "Dominique" is spelled "Domininque". Rand was born Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum in 1905, into a middle-class family living in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the eldest of three daughters (Alisa, Natasha, and Nora) . Her parents were, Zinovy Zacharovich Rosenbaum and Anna Borisovna Rosenbaum, agnostic and largely non-observant Jews. Her father was a chemist and a successful pharmaceutical entrepreneur who earned the privilege of living outside the Jewish Pale of Settlement. (Wikipedia, 2010) . This book was Rand's first major literary success which became a huge seller, matching the later popularity of Atlas Shrugged. Made into a Hollywood film in 1949, with Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal in the lead roles, it has become an enduring piece of literature, more popular now than when published in 1943. On the surface, it is a story of one man, Howard Roark, and his struggles as an architect in the face of a successful rival, Peter Keating, and a newspaper columnist, Ellsworth Toohey. But the book addresses a number of universal themes: the strength of the individual, the tug between good and evil, the threat of fascism. Light use wear to cloth. Inside hinges are starting, but no markings, completely clean inside. Jacket has sunned spine and wear, especially at crown of spine, but is attractive. Overall Good Condition in Good Jacket. (spec-14-21). Artikel-Nr. 26471
