What if the business you built to prove yourself became the very thing that broke you?

In The Founder Identity Trap, Simon Bourne shares a raw and unfiltered account of building a business, losing it, and confronting the uncomfortable truth that success had quietly become his identity.

From a turbulent childhood shaped by instability and a deep need for validation, to the rise of Hand Dyed Shoe Co., this is a story of ambition, creativity, and relentless drive. But as the business grows, so does the pressure. What begins as passion slowly transforms into dependency, where self worth, confidence, and identity become inseparable from performance.

When everything starts to unravel, the consequences are not just financial. They are deeply personal.

This book takes you inside the reality most founders never talk about. The anxiety, the sleepless nights, the fear of failure, and the dangerous belief that if the business fails, so do you.

But this is not just a story about loss.

It is a story about awareness, resilience, and rebuilding. About separating who you are from what you do. About finding meaning beyond success, and learning that your value does not disappear when everything else does.

Honest, confronting, and ultimately hopeful, The Founder Identity Trap is for anyone who has ever tied their identity to achievement, and wondered what happens when it all falls apart.
