Inhaltsangabe:

Covering the issues, themes and principles that explain what it means to be a nurse today, this book provides the theory students need to know and applies it to the diverse patient groups and settings that students will encounter on their placements.

Key features of the book are:

· Introduces the core aspects of adult nursing

· An evidence-based approach with discussion of literature, policy and research and suggested further reading for every chapter

· Over 30 case studies to help students understand the realities of practice across a range of settings including primary care and the community

· Stop and think boxes which challenge assumptions and encourage reflection

· A companion website with sample questions for lecturers to use in seminars, multiple choice questions for student revision and free SAGE journal articles

The book has been closely developed in line with the NMC Standards and Essential Skills Clusters and supports students across their entire degree programme as they develop into nurses of the future ready to deliver and lead care.

About the Author: Dianne Burns (RGN, RNT, MSc, BSc Hons, PGCE, SFHEA) is a Lecturer and Unit Lead for the B Nurse Leadership and Management Units in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Manchester. A Registered General Nurse since 1984, Dianne worked in a variety of clinical settings as a staff nurse (Acute Medical/Surgical, Orthopaedics) and latterly as a nursing sister (Accident/Emergency) before moving into a community setting; working as a practice nurse then Nurse Practitioner/Nursing Team Co-ordinator within a large semi–rural GP Practice. She joined the University of Manchester as a Lecturer in Nursing in 2003.
Dianne currently teaches across a variety of programmes within school and co-leads the Faculty HEA Senior Fellowship Programme alongside Dr Judith Williams. She is a University Link Lecturer with Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.
Over the last 10 years, Dianne, a current member and former steering committee member of the RCN Education Forum, has held a number of key programme management roles including Examinations Officer, Adult Branch Co-ordinator and Deputy Programme Director (DPSN/BSc Programme) and Adult Field Lead (B Nurs programme). She currently has three strategic leadership roles within the school: Academic Lead for Portfolio Development (B Nurs programme), Peer Educator Programme Lead (B Nurs programme) and Academic Lead for Employability (SNMSW). Each of these roles provides a perfect opportunity for her to draw upon her enthusiasm and passion for engaging with students, colleagues and healthcare practitioners in order to enhance learning within the school, the University and the wider community.
