Lunchtime can feel exciting—or a little scary—when what’s in your lunchbox looks different from everyone else’s. In The Flavors of Us: What’s in Your Lunchbox?, the first book in The Flavors of Us picture book series by Dr. Tiffany G, one child learns that the foods we carry from home are more than just meals—they are gifts of family, memory, and culture.

At first, opening a lunchbox full of vibrant, spiced food draws whispers and giggles from classmates. The child feels embarrassed, wishing for a “normal” sandwich. But when curiosity leads to sharing, everything changes. Friends take a bite, then another, and soon the whole class discovers that difference can be delicious. What began as a moment of self-doubt becomes a joyful celebration of pride, belonging, and the flavors that connect us.

Told in playful rhyme with bright, kid-friendly illustrations, this story affirms the beauty of cultural foods and the love that comes with them. It encourages children to embrace what makes them unique and to appreciate the traditions their classmates bring to school each day.
