Beschreibung:

Did you know that suckerfish can attach themselves onto other fishes to get a free ride? Or that the markings on the young Koran fish resemble the sacred inscriptions of the Koran? How some sharks give birth to their young rather than lay eggs, and how anglerfish actually stalk their prey with their stub-like fins and then ‘bait’ like fishermen! Fishes of India introduces us to the little known world of fishes, both fresh water and marine, found in India. Over 130 varieties are described in detail through numerous line drawings and photographs. A colour section on fishes gives us an unusual insight into their natural habitat. Sections on the uses of fish, a glossary, and a list of the common, scientific, and vernacular names of fishes provide additional information for interested readers. Size: 15 x 23 Cm. Über diesen Titel:

Inhaltsangabe: Over 70 percent of the earth's surface is covered by water and inhabited by some of the oldest life forms on earth - fishes. In Fishes of India, B. F. Chhapgar gives us an insight into the fascinating world of fishes.

Easy to read and fully illustrated, this book describes the form, habits, and habitat of over a hundred varieties of fishes commonly found in India. The kinds of fishes described include catfish, seahorses, perches, flatfish, and anglerfish, among others, as well as sharks and rays, and the tiny mudskippers. The book also includes a note on the uses of fish, a glossary, and an extended list of the common, scientific, and vernacular names of fishes.

Part of the "WWF-OUP Nature Guides" series, Fishes of India has been especially designed for our younger readers, but will appeal equally to older readers including parents and teachers, as well as nature lovers.

Buchbeschreibung LAP Lambert Academic Publishing Aug 2017, 2017. Taschenbuch. Buchzustand: Neu. Neuware - Brahmaputra River is one of the longest rivers in the world. It flows through Tibet, India (Arunachal Pradesh and Assam) and Bangladesh before reaching its delta with the Bay of Bengal. In Assam, the River traverses a total length of about 900 km and receives 103 notable tributaries from both sides, 65 from the north bank and 38 from the south bank. In the present investigation, effort has been made to study the fish faunal diversity of the River along with its distributional pattern throughout the length in Assam. Certain habitat attributes such as Plankton populations, Water and Soil quality of the river, has also been estimated to throw some light on its habitat ecology. 80 pp. Englisch.
