"The First Year of the Gold Standard" is a seminal analysis of the global economic landscape following the restoration of the gold standard in the mid-1920s. Written during a pivotal era of financial reconstruction, this work examines the practical implications, challenges, and initial outcomes of returning to a fixed monetary system after the volatility of the post-war period.

Theodor Emanuel Gugenheim Gregory provides a detailed account of how various nations navigated the transition, focusing on the stability of exchange rates, the impact on international trade, and the central role of banking institutions. The book serves as a critical historical document for understanding 20th-century monetary policy and the intellectual arguments surrounding currency value and economic equilibrium. It offers scholars and readers interested in economic history a clear-eyed view of a moment when the world sought to reclaim fiscal certainty amidst shifting geopolitical dynamics. Through his rigorous examination of the first twelve months of this policy's implementation, Gregory captures the complexities of global finance at a significant historical crossroads.
