Inhaltsangabe: Families around the world celebrate faith in many different waysthrough praying, singing, learning, helping, caring, and more. With stunning photographs from many cultures and religious traditions, Faith celebrates the ways in which people worship around the globe. Thematically organized back matter gives additional information on common expressions of faith, and a glossary describes particular religions and elements of faith depicted in the book. Faith, a Global Fund for Children book, has been selected as the 2011 Rodda Book Award winner by the Church and Synagogue Library Association (CSLA). The award recognizes one children s book every three years that exhibits excellence in writing and has contributed significantly to congregational libraries through promotion of spiritual growth. Written for ages 4 to 10, Faith takes children on a photographic journey that explores diverse expressions of faith in many parts of the world and spans Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, and indigenous spiritual traditions. Through rich portraits of children praying, celebrating, singing, learning, and caring, Faith inspires readers to think about what brings people together in reverence and hope. Maya Ajmera, Magda Nakassis, and Cynthia Pon, the co-authors of Faith, received the award at the recent CSLA Annual Conference in Washington, DC. The authors and The Global Fund for Children were honored by this recognition by congregational libraries and their staff, who work at the truly grassroots level to pass on the values depicted in the book, often tending the youngest members of their community. Magda shared the story of her great-aunt Rose, who was a dedicated, lifelong member of her church, an English teacher, and a lover of books. Cynthia thanked the photographers and advisers who made this beginning book on interfaith understanding possible, and shared her desire to pursue ways to bring Faith to more children, especially those who live in areas torn by religious conflict. Maya spoke about the vision of Global Fund for Children Books, which is committed to discovering similarities that bind together children everywhere, and pointed to faith as a particularly compelling subject, lived by so many and in myriad ways.
