The second edition of part II only of a II part work.This second part was first published in 1729.Anglo-Dutch social philosopher Bernard Mandeville first published 'The Fable of The Bees: or, Private Vices, Publick Benefits' in 1714, featuring a satirical poem and prose discussion of the poem, alongside an additional essay.This second part consists of six dialogues.With an index to the rear.ESTC T077578Mandeville's social theory and the thesis of the book, according to E. J. Hundert, is that "contemporary society is an aggregation of self-interested individuals necessarily bound to one another neither by their shared civic commitments nor their moral rectitude, but, paradoxically, by the tenuous bonds of envy, competition and exploitation". In a full calf binding. Significant rubbing to back strip, joints, and board perimeters. Joints starting, with boards tenderly held by cords only. Lacking front free endpaper.
