Expansionists of 1812. Dieser Artikel ist nicht verfügbar.Expansionists of 1812

"Expansionists of 1812" offers a groundbreaking analysis of the political and territorial ambitions that propelled the United States into conflict with Great Britain. In this classic work of American historiography, Julius W. Pratt challenges the traditional view that the war was fought solely over maritime rights and the impressment of sailors. Instead, he meticulously argues that the drive for territorial expansion-specifically the desire to annex Canada in the North and the Floridas in the South-was a primary motivator for the war's most vocal supporters.

Pratt examines the influence of the "War Hawks," the aggressive group of legislators from the South and the West whose agrarian interests and frontier concerns shaped national policy. The book explores how the fear of indigenous alliances with European powers and the hunger for new land created a powerful momentum for war. By analyzing the legislative debates and regional tensions of the era, the work provides a sophisticated look at the early development of American expansionist thought.

A foundational text for understanding the origins of the War of 1812, "Expansionists of 1812" remains essential reading for students of American history and political science. It provides vital context for the evolution of U.S. foreign policy and the complex motivations that defined the early Republic.
