Evidence Based Dentistry: An Understanding To Dentistry

Evidence based dentistry, based on the concepts developed at Mac Master University, presents guidelines to determine the validity of study results and whether they can be applied to clinical practice. The foundation for evidence-based practice was laid by David Sackett who has defined it as “integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research”. The evidence-based approach is a straightforward systematic process, which helps the clinician and researcher evaluate the relevant information regarding diagnostic, treatment, prognosis and experimental decisions5. Applying evidence-based process to the dental literature will improve the overall outcome of the oral care.
