The Gulf Region dominates the World energy exports today and is likely to do so in die years to come. Within the Gulf, the GCC states are a key supplier of the global hydrocarbons, hence it is a much sought after market. EU`s Principal source of energy was coal from the time of Industrialization (1950`s). The problem so occurred, that the coal reserves could not meet this growing Demand and on the other Hand the Gulf and the African Oil suppliers were willing to provide limitless supplies of oil at low prices. Thus, it became difficult for the European coal Industries to survive. The 27 members of European Union have been trying hard to pursue a common energy Policy (CEP), but due to their varying interests and energy supplies from other sources including Russia being a factor, they arc unable to achieve it. In the recent years, the flock of External stakeholders has raised the intensity of Competition worldwide. Specifically, EU`s energy engagement in the Gulf region has brought about tremendous implications for other stakeholders. The EU has not been intensely engaged with the region in energy segment. But die growing energy needs are compelling it to find its share in die Gulf energy market. The volume attempts to profile the Gulf as a supplier to the growing energy needs of EU and analyze EU?s energy engagement with the region with the new demand coming from Asia. This has also enhanced die energy stakes of a Country like India. The Nature of India`s energy engagement with the Gulf and its understanding of the perceived competition from EU are the major concerns of the book. The author discusses how the coming up of EU makes the task more difficult for India and what could be the policy premise for India and EU jointly harnessing the regional resources.
