The book explains the three Cs of enriched project learning content mastery, critical thinking, and collaboration, and shows how to plan enriched learning projects for multiple subjects by using backwards planning planning that emphasizes understanding and means over products. A model rubric guides teachers through the five-step backwards design process. Complete sample projects and reproducibles that can be used for planning are provided.
About the Author: James Bellanca is the founder and CEO of International Renewal Institute, Inc., and founder of the educational publishing company Skylight. He has extensive experience as a classroom teacher, alternative school director, professional developer, and intermediate service center consultant. Jim is known for his cutting-edge program design and implementation of research-rich, standards-aligned, professional learning programs for educators, Jim has worked with educational leaders in districts across the United States to design programs that promote critical thinking and collaboration to increase academic performance among all children, including high-risk student populations. Jim has also designed alternative school programs; an intermediate service center that pioneered practical professional development programs; a statewide, strategy-based set of courses for teachers; Illinois largest and most dynamic field-based master s degree program (in partnership with three universities); and a nonprofit service agency dedicated to the development of a 21st century enriched learning school model based on full integration of the Feuerstein method across all curricular areas and instruction.
