This digest is designed to fill a gap in reference materials for social terms consisting of geographic, historical, military and political words and phrases which one encounters as a student of Russian. It is by no means exhaustive, yet it will give you, the student or interpreter, many of the most valuable terms and phrases that you will encounter in books, conversations, papers, and references.

Some key economic, legal and scientific terms are sparingly included to help round out the abilities of the student.

It will be of interest to any person wishing to improve one's proficiency in Russian, or for Russian speakers seeking to improve their English proficiency. Any mistakes are strictly my own.

This digest is dedicated to my (retired) high school Russian and English instructors who gave me my start and love for Russian and English languages; Mr. George Poulin and Mr. Erald Medlar of Mt. Mansfield UHS, Jericho, Vermont;

also, to my mother Pauline, who always knew that I could do this; to my nieces and nephews, Kayley, Natalie, Cole, Chase, Bella, Elyse, Piper and Jackson, for their loving support in this endeavor.
