This encyclopaedia reviews current knowledge in the fields of linguistics and language studies. The work makes a systematic attempt to take into account the many different views and perspectives encountered in research and thinking in these fields, emphasizing the multidisciplinary nature of the subject. Alhabetically-organized, the work consists of 10 volumes, each containing more than 500 large-format pages, together with an index volume which includes a contributor index, a three-level subject index, a systematic outline of the "Encyclopedia", an article on the bibliographic sources of information, and a glossary of technical terms used in the field.
