This book tells the story of a remarkable transformation in business performance and the related journey on the quest for excellence to deliver sustained business results. It describes the day to day struggle of so called ordinary people working in a manufacturing environment and their quest to keep the business alive against the threat of closure. The concept of excellence, defined as being truly the best, is pursued by many and yet not always achieved. In the business world it is the Holy Grail of achieving through the delivery of superior performance. The attainment of true excellence demands total alignment of all within the organisation to the imperative of customer satisfaction and to the belief that good can always be bettered. It is a way of life, a way of thinking and relies on innovation brought about through collaboration and continually challenging the status quo. The book describes the journey that 1200 employees undertook in order to transform a failing business which was in danger of closing, not necessarily by the parent company but potentially by the customer walking away from them. It is a story of courage and ultimately self-belief of a community of people who faced up to the biggest challenge of their loves and succeeded against all the odds.
