Excerpt from An Elementary Practical Book For Learning The Speak The French Language, Expressly Adapted To The Capacity Of Children
Next to this first part of the work, follows a second, containing a table of the French Sounds and Articulations, With a list of corresponding syllables and words, and a series of appropriate lessons in reading. This second part having been comp11ed with great attention to the best usa ges of pronunciation, it will be found of certain utility to the teacher, and is especially calculated to give a correct understanding of the French language, and, with the first part, constituting the whole of the present volume, is tended_ for the use of the student.
It was my intention to have added third part, contain ing rules of Orthography and of Grammar, with numerous examples of their application, and I may with truth say, that in this portion of the work, I had thrown considera ble light into the fundamental causes of the various ortho graphical and grammatical accidents of languages 1n gene ral, and of the French in particular. But want of means has prevented me from accomplishing this desirable ob lect.
