Effective Reading in a Changing World

Using an integrated, holistic approach to reading and writing, this text is designed to help adult readers of varying backgrounds strengthen their cognitive abilities, view reading as a positive experience, and explore contemporary controversial issues. It combines mature, high-interest reading selections with in-depth practice activities, a broad spectrum of reading comprehension questions, and suggestions for discussion and journal writing. The focus throughout is on literal and inferential comprehension of textbook, essay, and literary material, as well as on the skills and strategies necessary for critical thinking, vocabulary development, and effective study techniques.
