Über diesen Titel

Inhaltsangabe:

Edmond bids good-bye to all the animals on the farm and goes exploring to the "far away" land just over the hill.

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 2-- This potentially appealing story of a child's first venture outside familiar territory exhibits amateurish writing and uneven illustrations. Little Edmond loves his farmhouse and barnyard friends but wants to explore the world beyond. He bids the farm farewell and bravely travels over the hill, where he is met by his father for an overnight campout. In the morning, Edmond happily returns home having broadened his horizons. If the story sounds slight and somewhat pointless, it is. The pedestrian text is further marred by awkward sentence structure, making the book completely unsuitable as a read-aloud. The narration is over-embellished and far too lengthy for the preschool audience that the setting and subject would attract. Foreman's watercolor illustrations also seem at odds with the theme. The paintings have a flat, static quality--a strange effect for a story of adventure. Cartoon-like portrayals of Edmond and some animals conflict with the misty pastel background scenes. Mark Taylor's Henry the Explorer (Atheneum, 1966; o.p.) handles the same theme in a much more satisfying manner. --Heide Piehler, Shorewood Public Library, WI
