Ecclesia: The Church in the New Testament by B. H. Carroll

Discover a definitive, historically significant exploration of biblical ecclesiology from one of the most influential theological minds of the early 20th century.

In Ecclesia, Dr. Benajah Harvey (B.H.) Carroll, the monumental founder and first president of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, delivers a masterful and uncompromising study on the true nature of the church. Long considered a treasure of early twentieth-century theology, this classic work provides a rigorous linguistic and scriptural defense of the local, visible congregation as the authentic biblical model.

Carroll systematically examines the Greek word ekklesia across the New Testament, firmly challenging the concept of a "universal, invisible church" and establishing the autonomy, authority, and divine design of the local body of believers. Through his legendary command of Scripture and sharp logical deduction, Carroll leaves no stone unturned in defining what a New Testament church is, how it should function, and where its authority lies.
