Über diesen Titel

Inhaltsangabe:

On June 5, 1982, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon began its sweep towards Beirut. As Princess Dina and her husband Salah Ta'amari watched the relentless advance of the Israeli forces from her home in Sidon in the South of Lebanon, she found herself torn between getting away while she could to be with her dying mother in Cairo, or remaining at Salah's side as he helped to organize the local Palestinian resistance.

At the insistence of Salah, she left for Cairo, knowing that he would, as spokesman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, be a marked man for the Israelis. Each day the news from Lebanon became more agonizing until she learnt that Salah was in Israeli hands, first for interrogation at Gadera prison in the Occupied Territories, and then with several thousand others at the notorious prison camp of Ansar.

By an unlikely chance, she was able to make contact with him in captivity and out of this there slowly emerged the seeds of an extraordinary initiative: to negotiate the release of thousands of Palestinians, Lebanese and other nationalities in exchange for six captured Israeli soldiers.

Duet for Freedom tells, for the first time, the inside story of how this was achieved. It interweaves Princess Dina's own gripping chronicle of the role she played with first hand accounts from Salah and other prisoners of thei experiences of desperation, tragedy and heroism. It also forms the unique story of a determined love able to overcome every barrier.
