July 2015 What is a dreamy quilt? It is a soft, cozy quilt that uses natural rather than bright fabrics and concentrates on the piecing and quilting techniques rather than loud patterns and lots of colors. If this sounds like something you would enjoy making then read on... There are fourteen projects in here, comprising nine quilts, four pillows and a dog bed. These include quilts for baby, a young boy, different seasons and themes and use applique as well as quilting techniques. Some are based on traditional blocks, others are more modern but all have a neutral, relaxing appearance. Each project features a full page photo of the finished item and in some cases another of it in a setting, as well as a diagram of the block, how they fit together and staged instructions. Helpfully the block size and finished item size is also given, useful if you want to change the dimensions. This is not a book aimed at beginners but anybody with some quilting experience ought not to find it too challenging. The steps are not illustrated with photos but with clear diagrams showing what you have added to a block and there is a cutting list of what you have to cut out before you start. At the back of the book is a chapter entitled "Quiltmaking Basics" which will be of help to those who are not experts. Subjects tackled include making your own bias binding, choosing batting, making corners and sashing plus some hints about the various techniques you find in the projects. Improver level quilters ought to find some lovely projects in here that are sure to become cherished heirlooms. User friendly and timelessly appealing. * Myshelf.com * July 2015 What is a dreamy quilt? There are 14 projects, quilts, a duvet cover, cushions etc. plus a dogs bed. Most of the blocks are 13" square or bigger. The original aspect of the designs is the irregular placement and size of the blocks. One quilt has two 40" stars in opposite corners with ten 20" stars around the remaining corners. Another quilt has both bowties and neckties pieced into blocks. The written words and diagrams are easy to follow. There are occasional close up photos of the quilting. * British Patchwork and Quilting *
