When does hope become delusion—and does the difference matter?

Inside an airport terminal, two birds circle above the departures lounge. Kier has abandoned any belief in escape. Aspen continues to fly, certain that her persistence inspires the travellers watching below.

Their opposing visions become a philosophical fable about optimism, faith, freedom, and the human need for meaning. As hope collides with evidence and belief with reason, the question becomes increasingly difficult: is Aspen courageously refusing despair, or simply refusing reality?

Through spare, poetic storytelling, Mike Salisbury transforms an unlikely encounter into a meditation on one of humanity’s most enduring impulses—the determination to believe that something better remains possible.

Dreaming of the Sky is an illustrated work of Canadian literary fiction for readers of philosophical fiction, modern allegory, and stories exploring hope, uncertainty, and transformation.
