When Beezle the Dalmatian first entered Trevor Grove's north London household he was just 'a scrap of spotty fur barely distinguishable from the hot-water bottle covers Boots were selling that winter'. Now he runs the place. Every day, rain or shine, he insists on taking Trevor for a walk on Hampstead Heath. This little book, charmingly illustrated by Posy Simmonds, is the result of these walks. As dog and man tramp the footpaths, seasons change, rabbits scarper, squirrels flee and foxes break cover. The Heath is also rich in human fauna. Trevor spots celebrities (Maureen Lipman, Julian Barnes, Emma Thompson). Beezle spots celebrities' sandwiches (Hugh Grant's ham rolls). Once Beezle nearly became a celebrity himself by sneaking onto the set of The Hundred and One Dalmatians to steal the camera crew's buns.A hymn to the joys of canine companionship, One Dog and His Man is a shrewd exploration of man's best friend's motivational psychology, perhaps best summed up in one word: 'biscuit'.

Beezle is a Dalmatian dog who was born in Welwyn Garden City. His parents were Theakston Tamerlan and Olympic Star of Olbero. He has never married and, so far as is known, has no puppies to his name.
