He founded the Confessing Church when the Nazis began to take control of the church in the 1930s. As this was crushed he became involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler, but was arrested in 1943. He was executed shortly before the end World War II. This biography, by his closest friend, shows Bonhoeffer as a family man as well as a theologian and ecumenist.
