Inhaltsangabe:

This book is part of a series designed to provide exercise rehabilitation alternatives for people who live with chronic medical conditions. Each book details the most beneficial activities and exercises for particular disabilities. In each book readers will find: an explanation of the chronic medical condition; essentials on tailoring an exercise programme to fit individual capabilities; guidelines for safe exercise; four complete exercise programmes (for walking, stationary cycling, jogging and the Schwinn Air-Dyne); and a Health Points System to help patients maintain motivation and gauge their progress. The Health Points System helps exercisers monitor their long-term progress. Points are received for levels of exercise and workout intensities as shown on the Health Points Chart. Exercisers then tally their points each week to determine the effectiveness of their efforts. Charts for many additional aerobic exercise activities are provided so readers can add variety to the exercise routines.

From the Publisher:

"Diabetes: Your Complete Exercise Guide provides a sensible, systematic treatment plan which could improve the health and fitness of millions of people with diabetes. A very thorough presentation of scientific and medical information makes this text especially useful for health care professionals in developing appropriate exercise programs for their diabetic patients. The "Health Point System" offers a precise, practical method of quantifying exercise training and it is soundly based on years of scientific investigations conducted at the Cooper Clinic and Research Institute. I highly recommend this book for all diabetes health care professionals and for any patient with an advanced understanding of this disease."

W. Guyton Hornsby, Jr., PhD, CDE Exercise Physiologist/Diabetes Educator West Virginia University

"This book is the first comprehensive guide for the individual with Type I or Type II diabetes specifically for the design and implementation of their personalized exercise program. Very informative and accurate on diabetes management during exercise.

A must for recommending to patients who desire or need to exercise. A handy reference written in very practical terms for easy implementation.

This book is unique . . . an exercise guide specifically and clearly designed for those with diabetes. Very easy to read and implement. . . . This is a wonderful and much needed book. I look forward to being able to recommend it and use it with the patients I see and know."

Barbara N. Campaigne, PhD Research Scientist Children's Hospital Medical Center, Division of Cardiology

"This is a well written guide for the medially sophisticated patient with diabetes mellitus interested in taking part in a serious exercise program The writing is clear and communicates sometimes complex data well. The book is filled with useful tables and practical tips. It is much less superficial than many similar attempts and would be useful for diabetes educators, exercise physiologists and even physicians, as well as patients. . . .I believe this to one of the most complete guides for exercise in diabetes available."

Stephen H. Schneider, M.D. Assoc. Professor of Medicine, Robert Wood Johnson Univ. Hospital Chairman, Exercise Council, American Diabetes Association

"I wish I had had this book twenty-three years ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes. My life may have taken a different path. This book not only show the benefits of exercise, but how to incorporate it into one's life. A must for every diabetic."

Pat Gallagher Producer/Host of "Living With Diabetes" President - EDI Radio Network

"All people with diabetes mellitus who are interested in or advised to participate in exercise programs will find this book useful. It has good, practical advice and can be a supplement to individual counseling regarding exercise programs. Complex concepts are explained clearly and in enough detail. I find the content to be up-to-date and accurate."

Edward S. Horton, M.D. Medical Director Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School

BookLovers of Bath is based in the rural idyll of Peasedown St. John in Somerset (God's Own Country) in the south west of England and actually very nearly in Bath. After 20 years of being “internet only” I have now opened a shop, Fact or Fable, in the premises of our now-closed Post Office. With over 20,000 books in stock and another 5,000 or so in the shop I run an old-fashioned book business with every book listed, graded, picked, packed and posted by my own fair hand… abetted by my Jack Russells who are really, not, helpful.
