"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you" (Luke 22:31–32). The enemy asked for the preacher by name. The Savior prayed for him by name.

There is a reason the devil does not waste his best lies on the person who never intends to move — he saves them for the one called to stand and speak. The Devil Is a Liar is written for that person: the preacher, the teacher, the called and ordained servant who has felt the particular assault the enemy reserves for the herald of the gospel. The discouragement that settles in after the sermon. The envy that poisons the study. The wound that comes from inside the camp. The lie that says you are finished, that your best days are behind you, that no one is listening.

In ten direct chapters, Rev. Dr. Billy J. Hill — writing out of decades in the pulpit — names the specific lies aimed at those who preach, answers each one with Scripture, and calls the servant of God back to the platform to finish the race. Each chapter exposes a lie, sets the truth that silences it against it, and points always to the Christ who prayed for Peter by name and is able to keep His servant from stumbling.

A companion to the author's fuller work, The Ancient Serpent, this is a book for the pulpit, written by one who has stood in it. The enemy asked for you by name — and your Intercessor asked for you by name, too. His prayer has never failed.
