In DECLARING HIS GLORY, we look back on 125 years of Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union. Through good times and challenging times, women had as their goal to do missions, pray for missionaries, give to missions, and educate adults and children about missions. The light of this goal has at times burned brightly and at other times has flickered because of adversity and circumstances, but the light has never been extinguished. Women in the twenty-first century reflect on the legacy of our foremothers and resolve anew that we will take the light of the gospel message to the ends of the earth.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Sammie Jo Barstow is a native of the Arkansas Ozarks but has made Tuscaloosa, Alabama her adopted home for more than 40 years. First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa is her local church family. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech; Master’s from the University of Alabama; and certificate in women’s ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She credits being a GA and working on Forward Steps (back in the day) as laying the foundation for her love for Jesus and for missions. She is a writer for Missions Mosaic and other WMU, SBC publications and has been a writer of magazine articles for 26 years. Lucretia Jo Mobbs is an Alabamian now residing in Portland, Tennessee with her husband, Bill. They came to Tennessee to be nearer their daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. Creekside Fellowship, a Baptist congregation on the outskirts of Gallatin is their church home. Lucretia graduated from the women’s ministry program of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with an Advanced Certificate and praises the Lord that He has allowed her to use the lessons learned there in incredible ways and places. She and Bill have made many trips to serve with her mentor in missions, Robin Janey, and her husband, Charlie, who now serve on the mission field. She is a writer for Missions Mosaic and other WMU publications. Lucretia has two marvelous daughters, two equally marvelous sons-in-law, and two fabulous grand-daughters. Candace McIntosh likes to say she is a Floridian by birth but an Alabamian by heart. Her greatest desire is to serve the Lord wherever He leads, and she’s thrilled she gets to do that through Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union. Prior to her current post as executive director, Candace served as the Alabama WMU consultant for students and ministries and was a camp counselor in Florida. Learning about missions as an Acteen planted a seed in her heart that continues to grow in depth even today.
