Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

20 lines in black ink on first side only of 4pp 4to, integral address leaf, post-marked & retaining wax seal; lightly folded for posting, sl. torn at seal. A nice letter from Procter to the Scottish poet Allan Cunningham, 1784-1842, requesting some verses for the William Harrison Ainsworth, editor of the new annual publication The Keepsake. Procter tells Cunningham, 'it is to be published without names & to stand upon its own merits', further advising him, 'You will have to quarrel neither with your compassion nor with the remuneration, although the last is a point that I know you do not stand up so stoutly for, as persons of less wit & good nature'. Procter asks for 'songs, because your songs are what I like, & because they will give you the least trouble perhaps'. Despite Procter's friendly solicitations, it appears Cunningham did not contribute to The Keepsake. PLEASE NOTE: For customers within the UK this item is subject to VAT at 20%.
