Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Zustand: NEAR FINE. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. 60pp. 10.75x10.75' square 4to in black cloth with blindstamped front cover and gilt spine lettering. Color illustrated throughout with reproductions of Sr. Corita's posters. Gift inscription to FFEP, exceedingly clean and sharp otherwise; price-clipped DJ with some light rubbing to the extremities and a small puncture to the front near the spine, otherwise clean and bright, an attractive copy of Corita's sixth book, shortly after she left the religious order she had belonged to most of her life. Frances Elizabeth Kent, aka Sister Mary Corita, became a nun at age 18 and eventually went on to teach and head the art department of her order's flagship institution, Immaculate Heart College. As she became internationally renowned for her serigraph prints, Sister Corita's work became increasingly focused on social justice in the late 1950's and throughout the 60's. Using bright colors and stark juxtapositions of text and image, she used scripture passages, song lyrics, and quotations to highlight the joy and beauty promised in the pursuit of justice and mutuality.
