A year later, Zahid receives a video call from Kashif and Rashid. The two men appear alive, uninjured, and strangely composed. They tell Zahid that he killed the wrong men and ask him a question he cannot answer: if Kashif and Rashid were the men he supposedly killed, whose bodies were buried beneath their names? Zahid is forced to confront the possibility that the official version of the deaths was fabricated. His guilt, however, is only the first layer of a much larger conspiracy.
Master Yaseen remembers Kashif as an unusually observant child who seemed to understand that someone was watching him and the other boys long before their disappearance. Yaseen's memories reveal that the boys had encountered something dangerous in their youth, and that the apparently ordinary landscape of Prokia Wala concealed a history of surveillance, disappearance, and institutional violence.
Ahsan's investigation eventually leads him toward Baba Ji, an enigmatic scholar and spiritual figure with a background in psychology and an intimate knowledge of the village's buried history. Baba Ji warns him that the story has always contained four boys and that someone deliberately attempted to erase the fourth from collective memory. At the same time, Seema and her sister Sheeba become increasingly entangled in the mystery. Their relationship with Ahsan exposes another dimension of the novel: the unreliability of memory does not merely conceal political crimes; it also allows people to evade responsibility for intimate betrayals.
The decisive revelation comes when Baba Ji explains that the fourth boy was not Haris, as everyone has assumed. The fourth boy was Ahsan himself.
Maryam paid the ultimate price for attempting to reveal the truth. Before her death, she left a recording for Ahsan. In it she tells him that his memory was not erased to protect him but to protect those responsible. She also leaves him with the final mystery of the fourth boy. Her message allows Ahsan to recover the first substantial fragments of their relationship and to understand that she had loved him before his memories were destroyed. Her final words establish that she never abandoned him.
The surviving evidence is eventually brought into the open. Shahzad testifies after twenty years of silence. Ahsan also testifies and refuses to conceal his own involvement or culpability. The truth is transferred from private memory into public record—into history, legal proceedings, and the testimony of those who were silenced. Haris, it is finally established, did not survive the experiment. His body had been buried anonymously beneath a false identity.
In the aftermath, Seema leaves Prokia Wala and begins teaching. Sheeba eventually leaves as well. The sisters do not recover the lives they once possessed, but they slowly construct lives less burdened by deception. Ahsan retains Maryam's locket, the photographs, and the cassette, but no longer keeps their secrets. He gives the evidence to the families, the courts, and history.
The dead remain dead. For the first time, Ahsan no longer wishes them to return. He understands that resurrection belongs to God, not to laboratories, governments, physicians, or grieving human beings. His task is not to conquer death but to remember truthfully.

Shopbeschreibung
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
