A suspicious death. A baffling crime. A family struggling to heal. Former FBI Special Agent Willow Banks gave up her federal badge to raise her murdered brother's three daughters. Now a Captain with the Beaufort Police, she is desperate to provide the grieving girls with the stability they deserve. When a local store is broken into, Willow is pulled into an investigation where the victim insists that nothing was stolen, but the evidence points to a cover-up. Jackson Brooks left the Bureau for a supervisory role at NCIS, determined to be the steadfast father figure his new family needs. On his very first day, a Marine recruit dies during Parris Island's grueling endurance test: The Crucible. As Jackson's rookie team digs into the death, they uncover whispers of a secret "blood oath" that turns soldiers against the country they've been trained to fight for. While Willow and Jackson struggle to reach their eldest niece, whose growing bond with a troubled new friend threatens to bring danger to their doorstep, they find themselves caught up in a conspiracy that targets the community's most vulnerable. Now, with their K9 partners, the couple must race against time to protect the girls they sacrificed their careers to raise, and in doing so, must survive a crucible of their own.
