Crises in the Cockpit is an exciting mix of air-ground combat stories drawn from the careers of Slim Beamon, a friend for life, Dave Scharett, A Va Tch Corp of Cadets buddy of the author, and John Daniel, a Tennessee fellow, whose son (Tyson) found me through Facebook, stating: "Mr. Barnes, I have some combat notes of my father, which may be candidates for one of your books. One glimpse at those notes from John Daniel's exemplary career compelled me to include them in this final book. As you read John's accounts of combat duty, you will understand why he made such a meaningful impact on the lives of those he touched. So, Slim's stories, including one where he met 'al Zarqawi (Osama bin Laden's friend), open Crises in the Cockpit, stories from Dave and other friend entertain you, and the stories of John Daniel, an exemplary "hero of heroes", will have you gasping for breath as they close out Jerry Barnes' four books of combat stories. Of course, there are other surprises along the way, including stories from other heroes, that will give readers a true sense of the physical and emotional pain of combat. One final surprise, tucked in the middle of Crises - my friend Silas Harland's account as a WWII prisoner of war. All I can say is, get ready to devour this exciting, memorable and emotional set of combat stories. As you read, please remember - these are stories from real Americans who answered the call of duty to protect and defend our beloved country. May we never forget the sacrificial pain of combat as we begin to understand its depth and lasting emotional impact on each veteran.
