Born on a farm outside of Memphis the daughter of a bootlegger Edna 'Ma' Bragg came to New York in 1946 at the age of thirty. Here she worked as a cleaner and cook until she found a job working for a Broadway producer as a housekeeper. Over the next 50 years her reputation grew as she cooked for Casey Stengel, Jackie Onassis, David Koch, and Bill Backer. This memoir shows how her soul food style evolved to please city sophisticates.
