Excerpt from The Contributor<br/><br/>Attempts having been made to destroy the tree with fire, the government has caused it to be enclosed with a substantial iron fence. The great adventurer stand ing, with a perplexed but still determined look upon his face, under this historic tree, with the mountains as a back: ground, and the moon emerging from behind a bank of dark clouds, has been represented in featherwork, by an Indian artist. As a specimen of native art, this picture is really remarkable, while the effect produced by the beautiful feathers, as the light falls upon, and changes their hue is wonderfully brilliant.
