A country's economic advancement of a country relies on a number of key players, which include its natural resources and as well as well-trained workforce. Geological Mineral Exploration and Exploitation of the natural resources require trained manpower to be adequately equipped with mining engineering and geoscientific knowledge, beefed up with technical and occupational skills; particularly in Artisanal Small-scale Mining (ASM) operation areas. Indeed, engineers and geoscientists are blessed with the relevant knowledge and skills thereby remaining on the forefront. It is in this respect that this TVET's Competency-based book on Contemporary Applied Geology in Mining Perspective will be helpful to students pursuing Certificate and Diploma Programmes in Applied Geology; and also for Bachelor of Science Degree program. Such programmes require prime skills for identification and descriptions of common rock-forming mineral properties, occurrences and uses, which solely form as an intimate part of rock-making, dynamic Earth system processes, often caused by typical plate tectonics mechanism.
