"Some Contemporary Americans" offers a perceptive and scholarly examination of the landscape of American letters during the vibrant first quarter of the twentieth century. Written by the esteemed literary historian and critic Percy H. Boynton, this collection of essays delves into the lives and legacies of the writers who were then shaping the national identity. Through a series of thoughtful profiles, Boynton evaluates the contributions of major figures such as Edith Wharton, Robert Frost, Edgar Lee Masters, and Carl Sandburg, providing contemporary readers with a window into the evolution of American modernism.

The work serves as both a critical survey and a historical record of a period marked by profound literary experimentation. Boynton explores the shifting themes of realism, naturalism, and regionalism, analyzing how these authors captured the complexities of American life. His insights into the poetic movements of the era, including the works of Amy Lowell and the Chicago school, remain invaluable for understanding the roots of modern American poetry. "Some Contemporary Americans" is an essential resource for students of literary history and anyone interested in the development of a distinctively American voice in the early 1900s. It stands as a testament to Boynton's keen critical eye and his dedication to fostering a deeper appreciation for the nation's intellectual heritage.
