Sister Wáng Hánxù is nothing short of a legend in her own right. Her opus, a soul cry, emerges as a legend within a legend. Only a life touched by such remarkable events could produce a work of this magnitude. Wang Hanxu, a woman from rural China who didn't even finish middle school, managed to pen this extraordinary book in America while dragging along a frail body that might succumb at any moment. Throughout the book, two themes intertwine: a loud protest against the world- "I am human! I am human! I am human! Not a mute beast to be manipulated at will!"-and a heartfelt gratitude towards God-"It's all grace! It's all the Lord's grace!" This book is certainly not the Bible nor a work of sage wisdom, but it is the voice of conscience from a woman who has suffered profound injustice and hardship. We should not judge it too harshly. More importantly, she is a Christian, a believer in God, and a recipient of Christ's salvation. From the beginning to the end of this book, Wang Hanxu, with the candor typical of Northeastern women, admits that she is a sinner-a genuine, thorough sinner.
