A complete limited edition set of the the works of Walter Savage Landor, complete in sixteen volumes. Walter Savage Landor was an English poet and writer best remembered for his prose work 'Imaginary Conversations', containing prose dialogues between historical people of classical Greece and Rome. Whilst his work has been received with great critical acclaim, as a person Landor was decidedly unpopular amongst the public. He spent his whole lifetime quarreling with his father, neighbours, wife, and any authorities at hand who offended him. However, he won the friendship of many literary men, including Robert Southey, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Charles Lamb, Charles Dickens and Robert Browning, who were all greatly influenced by his works. This edition of 'The Complete Works of Walter Savage Landor' is limited to 525 sets, of which 500 are for sale in England and America. This set is lacking the original dustwrappers. This set contains the following works: Imaginary Conversations, volume I Imaginary Conversations, volume II Imaginary Conversations, volume III Imaginary Conversations, volume IV Imaginary Conversations, volume V Imaginary Conversations, volume VI Imaginary Conversations, volume VIII Imaginary Conversations, volume IX Pericles and Aspasia High and Low Life in Italy, and The Poems of Catullus Miscellaneous Papers Poems I Poems II Poems III Poems IV With a portrait frontispiece with a protective tissue guard to each volume except volume XII, with an additional map plate of 'Catillus and Salia' to volume XIII. This is an ex-library set, with institutional ink and blind stamps to the very occasional page (not affecting text) of 'Birkbeck College'. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, minor shelf wear to extremities. Evidence of library label formerly tipped to spine, now removed. Small ink mark to rear board, volume V. Library ink stamp to front free-endpaper. 'Birkbeck Library College' blindstamp to front free-endpaper, title page, and the occasional page. Internally firmly bound. Half title page to contents volume II partially detached to gutter, tender. Pages slightly age toned to edges but very bright and clean throughout. The very odd faint spot and handling mark to the occasional page. Light scattered spotting to half title page volume II, offset to facing page. Evidence of slip tipped to rear pastedown volume XII, now removed. 'Birkbeck College' library slip tipped to rear pastedown volume XVI. Very Good Indeed.
