Th1s source was the xenon are which has a radiation spectrum remark ably 91m11ar to solar energy in the u ltrav101et and vis1b1e regions While th1s machine has found extensive use in the plastics, textiles, famd phatbgraph1c industries, the first published use 1n asphalt degrada tion has been -reported only recently_ by Martin [us] and by wright and Campbe11.[ﬂ6] In both of these references, f11ms 25 h thick were used w1thout water spray or thermal shock.
