Excerpt from A Comparative View of the Various Institutions for the Assurance of Lives
If the reader should think that I have been too sparing of praise, too ready to criticise, let him consider that my object has been to collect and arrange informa tion for his use, and that my criticisms may not be without value, even to the institutions which give rise to them If, from what I have stated, he should be disinclined to become an assurer, he will have arrived at conclusions very} different from my own. In my opinion, there are few situations 'in life in which it is not desirable, at some period or other, to enter into contracts of this kind; and on this point I quite agree with the sentiments expressed by Mr. Morgan, in the preface to his treatise on assurances.
