Inhaltsangabe:

Chapel Hill 1989 1st. "The Greatest Hector in the Town" 8vo., 232pp., illus., index. Civil war. Fine in Fine DJ.

From Publishers Weekly:

As depicted in this lively biography by Miller ( Captains of Devon ), politically ambitious, licentious Daniel Parke (1664/5-1710) sparked much controversy in his time, both in England as a Restoration courtier and aide-de-camp to the Duke of Marlborough and in colonial America, where he tried but failed to become governor of Virginia. Combining a novelist's talent with scholarship, the author recounts in entertaining detail Parke's checkered public and private careers, which culminated in the governorship of the Leeward Islands--where after four disastrous years he was murdered by his subjects. Illustrations not seen by PW.

Anbieterinformationen

BookLovers of Bath is based in the rural idyll of Peasedown St. John in Somerset (God's Own Country) in the south west of England and actually very nearly in Bath. After 20 years of being “internet only” I have now opened a shop, Fact or Fable, in the premises of our now-closed Post Office. With over 20,000 books in stock and another 5,000 or so in the shop I run an old-fashioned book business with every book listed, graded, picked, packed and posted by my own fair hand… abetted by my Jack Russells who are really, not, helpful.
